"Life's most persistent and urgent question is, 'What are you doing for others?'" ~ Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. On January 20, 2025, the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday will mark the 30th anniversary as a National Day of Service. This day was established to honor the life and legacy of Dr. King. Martin Luther King Jr. Day (January 15, 2025) connects deeply to our District's Value of Service to our Community. Dr. King emphasized the importance of breaking down barriers to opportunity, including transportation, which he recognized as a critical means of access to jobs, education, and healthcare. As a public transit agency, we uphold these ideals by ensuring all communities - regardless of race, income, or ability - have equitable access to mobility services.
Public transit played a pivotal role in the Civil Rights Movement, most notably with the Montgomery Bus Boycott in 1955-56. This event highlighted the fight for racial equality and fair treatment in public services, laying a foundation for modern discussions about justice and equity in transit. |

"The Bridge District is in the customer service business, so serving the community is always top of mind for me. It's important that we provide first-class service to everyone traveling in the Golden Gate Corridor, and equality is the cornerstone for achieving this goal." ~ Denis Mulligan "The District Secretary’s Office is a small but mighty office! Everyone in our office is committed to providing equitable services to all customers (internal and external), regardless of their background or circumstances." ~ Amorette Ko-Wong "All of us at the District are public servants entrusted with providing and maintaining a great transportation system for the traveling public. It is our duty to ensure that our services are inclusive and accessible to all community members. To fulfill our responsibilities, we must actively engage with all stakeholders, including those from diverse backgrounds, to understand their unique needs and challenges. By doing so, we create more effective, inclusive, and equitable solutions that serve our community." ~ John Eberle "During my career both working at the District and serving in the military, there are many values which stay firmly rooted in my interactions with employees, vendors, and patrons alike. Two of these values are integrating equality and service as a leader. Leadership is more than a position - it is a commitment to fairness, care for the workforce, and the commitment to the values we as a District subscribe to." ~ David Rivera "As a leader, I believe it is important to foster an inclusive environment where voices are valued and respected. By modeling fairness and integrity, my goal is to inspire trust and cultivate a culture of service, where collaboration and helping others is a top priority and shared value." ~ Jennifer Mennucci "The Ferry Division strives to incorporate inclusion and equality by ensuring employees have access to the same opportunities for growth and by fostering a collaborative and supportive environment where all perspectives are valued. We also prioritize open communication to make sure everyone feels heard and empowered in their roles." ~ Michael Hoffman |
