Dr. Woodson is the founder of Association for the Study of Negro Life and History, that is now called the Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH) (established in 1915). In 1926, Dr. Woodson initiated the celebration of Negro History Week, which 50 years later would be expanded to a month long celebration.
